Perhaps you've noticed a change in the way I draw bookcases in the last few days. Or perhaps your unconscious noticed that things look better, but you hadn't consciously noted it. After some experimentation I have concluded that at a distance a bunch of vertical lines look more like books than actually drawing the outline of each book. Plus, it takes less time to draw. When books are nearer the foreground I'll still draw them "realistially," but I'm fascinated with the mind's ability to take that row of lines and turn them into books without thinking about it.
