It occurs to me that I haven't reported back on our attempt to get Unshelved syndicated in the newspapers. Let me begin by saying that this was one of those things we were and are conflicted about. Newspaper syndication looks increasingly like an outmoded distribution model, and we had grave reservations about it. But we figured we'd prefer to say no to a deal in hand than to reject the whole concept on a theoretical basis. So some months back we submitted to the six largest syndicates. So far we have heard from four (or possibly five, I've lost count) of them. I'll break the suspense by revealing that they took a pass, though Universal was kind enough to say some nice things about the art and writing. I tend to think PVP's plan to offer the strip free to newspapers on a no-strings basis is actually the right approach, and so that's something we may pursue in the future.
