Diversity Begins at Home

For the third time in three years, one or more members of my family has appeared in the local paper. This time it was everyone but me (though I'm briefly mentioned) in this article about transracial adoption. That's my wife and daughter in the picture (there are more pictures, including one of my long-haired son, here).

While we're on the subject, those of you following our quest to move to a more diverse neighborhood will be pleased to hear that today we found a house we love and our offer was accepted. It's to the East of Columbia City (Seward Park/Lakewood) in South Seattle. Our new street has lots of differently colored faces, and that part of Seattle in general has a wonderful cross section of humanity. I think our daughter will feel more at home, and will have a better chance to figure out who she is.

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of this mission. We're excited to open this next chapter in our lives. And there are more big changes on the way.
