Hardly a week goes by without someone telling us they work with someone who is just like Dewey, or Mel, or Merv. We've decided to put this proposition to the test with the first-ever Unshelved Lookalike Contest. Here's how it works:

1. You upload one or more photos to Flickr (accounts are free). Important: Each submission must be tagged UnshelvedLookalike2009 (no spaces), be visible to the public, and have a Creative Commons license (whichever one you like). Please provide the models' names in the notes field.
2. You assert that everyone in the photo is either over 18 or has the permission of their parents or guardians to participate.
3. We will award one prize each for the individuals who remind us most of Dewey, Mel, Colleen, Tamara, Buddy, Merv, Ned, and Randy. Each winner gets a certificate and the Unshelved book and t-shirt of their choice. There will be an additional special prize for the best Buddy.
4. We will award one prize to the best group picture, which must include a Dewey, Mel, Colleen, and Tamara, with extra credit for other Unshelved characters. Each member of the winning group gets a certificate and the Unshelved book and t-shirt of their choice.
5. We will judge based on such factors as costume, pose, expression, and setting. Obviously a natural physical resemblance helps, but we're also looking for the right vibe.
6. Photos must be reasonably high resolution and in focus, and unretouched.
7. Contest closes March 25. We will announce the winners shortly thereafter on this blog and via Flickr.

We are looking forward to seeing our characters in flesh and blood!
