Here's why today's strip looks a little different:
A couple of weeks ago we had a great time delivering Surviving The Public at Kitsap Regional Library's annual staff day, our second time speaking to them. Then we did something new. The staff had filled a basket with dozens of true library stories. While they did their afternoon programs we read all the stories, extracted a short list that we thought had the most potential, and brainstormed scripts for them. We chose the strongest script, and I proceeded to draw it there, the old fashioned way: pencil on paper, then inked with a brush pen. At the close of their session we unveiled the resultant strip and gave a set of Unshelved books to Susan, who contributed the winning story (in real life the poor guy really did just want a photocopy). She will also get a signed color print of the strip. The original art is on its way to her branch, where we hear it will be displayed in the staff room.
This was super fun (if a little stressful) and we'd love to do it again at your conference or staff day. As always you can find out more about hiring us at our Talks & Appearances page.
