Cartooning in the Digital Age

Cartooning in the Digital Age

My family is almost midway through our 13 month RV trip around the country. We have visited 26 states, and I have given my library program Cartooning in the Digital Age a couple of dozen times.

I'm not going to lie to you folks. This started off as a good program, but it has turned into something absolutely fantastic. In two hours I cover:

  • the history of comic strips, and why most cartoonists are now on the web
  • my personal journey from a kid who wanted to be a cartoonist, to an adult doing this for a living
  • the most important lessons I've learned about creativity and productivity
  • how Gene and I make Unshelved, both writing and drawing
  • how Jeff and I make Not Invented Here
  • the ups and downs of drawing on computers, including a demonstration
  • how we make money from giving comics away for free

February and March will see us in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and maybe a return trip to the greater Atlanta area. If you haven't already contact me about speaking at your library, this would be a great time to get something scheduled. Go read all about it, and then drop me a line! I can provide you with some absolutely glowing references.
