Pimp My Bookcart 2008 : The Cat in the Hat Reshelving and Cleaning Machine

from UCSD Libraries

Inspired by the cleaning machine in Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat, the UCSD Libraries’ book cart is a mobile, operational, and multi-functional reshelving and cleaning machine designed and constructed by UCSD Libraries’ staff for library comic Unshelved’s “Pimp My Bookcart” competition. Need to shelve a stray book? Clean the aisles between the stacks? Juggle fish? No problem! Not only will this multi-armed feat of imaginary engineering reshelve stray library books, but it will also clean the library and (you guessed it) juggle fish! The cleaning machine was chosen by Libraries’ staff because of UCSD’s tie to Theodor and Audrey Geisel (Dr. Seuss and his wife), and proved to be a fun and exciting construction challenge for members of the “Pimp My Bookcart” team. Our favorite of the Seussian carts because of the finish and the presentation. They win a gift certificate to the Unshelved store and a Smith mini book truck card holder.
