Ultra Portable

I got the latest in a long string of new laptops yesterday - a Fujitsu P7010D. I think this one is here to stay (famous last words). When I opened up the box I had a very visceral experience of how much I loved its predecessor, the P5020D. There's just something very attractive about a computer the size of a small hardback book.

My mission over the next week is my personal computer holy grail: get it working as a desktop replacement so I can just have one computer. That way when I go on a trip (or to work at Starbucks when my house is too hectic) I just disconnect the cables and all my files are there. "Desktop Replacement" is not a good description of this little ultraportable, but in processor speed it's comparable to my current (3.5 year old) desktop. I made sure to get a 7200rpm HD as well, so even though laptops don't typically have the throughput of desktops, in this case it may be faster.

By the way, if you're interested I highly recommend Portable One which continues to have the best customer service I've ever experienced. Oh, and great prices.
