Twitter in, FaceBook mostly out

I've given it several weeks, and I think Twitter is here to say. I really like to share my travels, opinions, and mental state. This blog is one way, but by its nature is better for medium-to-large thoughts. My Twitter feed turns out to be great way for very little thoughts (called "tweets"). Gave two good talks yesterday. Had coffee too late in the day and couldn't sleep. I'm not saying it's high literature or great journalism, but you're welcome to follow along.

I still can't figure out FaceBook, however, or any of its other social networking brethren. I already have a website, why would I want another one? It has turned out to be a good way to find lost friends, but the other 95% of it just looks like cruft. It turns out the main reason I was checking it was to follow people's status updates. But guess what, that's what Twitter is perfect for. It still seems like FaceBook is trying to build a walled garden, a sort of private Internet, and I'm not interested in playing that game. I'm not cancelling my membership, not quite yet, but I'm switching from "once-a-day" to "when-I'm-bored".
