Remodel

Okay, so that was a pretty surrealistic turn we just pulled there. You may ask yourself, why? It was an artistic problem. When I started drawing the strip almost a year and a half ago I hadn't invested the time to figure out what the Mallville Public Library actually looked like. So I just kind of drew whatever seemed right. An information desk that started off curved and then became square. A circulation desk that was never heard from again. Bookshelves that came and went, computers that moved, a staff area of Escherean complexity. Eventually I had drawn myself into a corner, and I didn't like it. It was time for a remodel. But we didn't want to do a giant plot arc about a realistic library remodel, so we introduced this little plot turn where Buddy just does it overnight. Hope it didn't jar too much, we thought it was pretty funny.

Henceforth you can expect the library backgrounds to be rather more consistent and, hopefully, better drawn. One day I may even publish the blueprints that I actually have pinned up by my drawing table. Except they aren't blue.
